Artist Biography

Wayne Strattman was born in Bristol, Connecticut.  He moved to Boston and created his company, Strattman Design, in 1983.

Since 1983, Strattman Design has grown to become the world leader in crafting glass and light forms for use in sculpture for museums and other applications worldwide. To do this work Wayne combined his engineering training with his love of sculpture and the history of electricity, specifically those technologies using glass. Wayne received his PhD by published papers in 2008, recognizing his career working to advocate and to advance this field of lighted glass art. In 2017 Wayne was honored by the Glass Art Societies with its annual international member of the year award.

Wayne has created displays and sculpture that have been installed or shown in hundreds of museums worldwide. His work is a synthesis of art using both antique and new technologies often utilizing many of the forms of his own patented creation.

He has taught both domestically and internationally, written extensively, as well as curated lighted glass art shows. In 2004 he created and endowed an ongoing international lecture series called Critical Dialogue dealing with topical issues in art. He has also recently funded a scholarship for emerging glass technologies specifically for use by artists.
